Welcome to the
Decatur Vegetarian Society

The Decatur Vegetarian Society (DVS) was formed in the spring of 2007 to serve the Decatur, IL area. The society is open to anyone who has an interest in any aspect of vegetarianism, healthy eating, environmentalism, or animal rights. We are an informal group that meets the third Wednesday of every month at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Decatur (3773 N. MacArthur Road). Please use the Contact page to reach us regarding meeting times and upcoming program information.

We have vegetarian potlucks at all of our meetings to introduce people to the wholesome and tasty possibilities of meatless food preparation. The potlucks are accompanied by sometimes lively discussions about vegetarian issues, particularly dietary choices and various food options that are available to people. Also, we usually have programs following the meals, either by live presenters or by informative videos of professional speakers on a variety of topics. Our meetings are free and open to the public, but we do ask for contributions (money or food) if people attend the potlucks.

People who choose to become members of the DVS pay annual membership fees as follows: family ($15), individual ($10), and student ($5). The membership includes Veg View, a monthly digital newsletter, which highlights meeting and program information, local and national news, special articles, restaurant reviews, humor, Internet links, and recipes.

If you are interested in checking us out, we will send you 3 complimentary issues of our newsletter. Just send us your e-mail address using the contact page.
